Tanzania has unveiled one of Africa’s largest Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) hubs, marking a major milestone in the country’s push toward clean energy and a low-carbon economy.
The state-of-the-art facility is expected to play a critical role in reducing fuel costs, lowering carbon emissions, and supporting the government’s broader green transition agenda. Officials say the hub will significantly expand access to cleaner and more affordable energy for transport, industry, and households.
Speaking during the launch, government representatives said the project aligns with Tanzania’s commitment to climate action and sustainable development. The CNG hub is designed to promote the use of natural gas as an alternative to traditional fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel, which are both costly and environmentally harmful.
