President Museveni Honoured with CAF Outstanding Achievement Awards in Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has honoured the Presidents of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania with the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award during the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony held in Rabat, Morocco.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Kenya’s President William Ruto, and Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan received the prestigious recognition for their exceptional contributions to the development and strengthening of football structures across East Africa.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe praised the three leaders for their unwavering commitment to advancing football on the continent, noting that their investments have played a key role in elevating the sport both regionally and globally.

Infrastructure and Regional Impact

The award highlights President Museveni’s long-standing support toward enhancing sports infrastructure and nurturing football talent in Uganda and beyond. Uganda has in recent years made significant strides in developing modern sports facilities, including:

Hoima City Stadium

Akii Bua Stadium in Lira

Training facilities at Kyambogo, Kadiba, Namboole, and Muteesa II Wankulukuku

Renovation of Mandela National Stadium and its auxiliary training pitch

These developments form part of a wider regional effort that has seen Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania jointly host the successful CHAN 2024 tournament under the Pamoja initiative. Preparations for the AFCON 2027, which the three nations will co-host, are also well underway.

Motsepe emphasised that the collective vision of the three presidents has inspired a new generation of players and fans, and has strengthened Africa’s potential to compete on the world stage.

Individual Accolades

In addition to the presidential honours, Uganda celebrated another moment of success as Shamira Nabadda, one of the nation’s top match officials, was named CAF Female Referee of the Year, further underscoring Uganda’s growing footprint in African football.
