KENYA: 14-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized After Alleged Assault by Priest at Bomet Church

A 14-year-old boy named Brian is recovering in Chelimo Hospital after being allegedly beaten by a priest at St. Peters Catholic Church, Mugango parish in Bomet County. The boy’s father, Stephen Rono, reported that Brian was assaulted with a club on his head several times for a mistake that has not been disclosed. The name of the priest involved remains unknown.

Stephen Rono explained that he found Brian injured on a boda boda motorcycle, showing clear signs of harsh beating. “If he was wrong, why beat him with a club?” Rono questioned as he sought answers and justice.

According to Gilbert Rono, a medical officer at Chelimo Hospital, Brian arrived with visible injuries on his head and hands, including blood clots in his eyes and soft tissue damage. The boy was given first aid and is now in stable condition.

The family has reported the matter to local authorities in Bomet and is awaiting further action to ensure justice is served. This incident raises serious concerns about the safety of minors within religious institutions and calls for thorough investigations.
