Dar es Salaam Slowly Reopens After Curfew Lifted

Life in Dar es Salaam is gradually returning to normal after the government officially lifted the curfew that had been in place for several weeks.

The curfew was imposed to restore calm following days of unrest that affected several parts of the city. During that period, businesses were forced to close early, public transport was limited, and residents were urged to remain indoors for their safety.

Now, as the restrictions ease, many residents have begun to resume their normal routines. Markets such as Kariakoo, one of the busiest commercial centers in the city, are once again bustling with activity. Traders have reopened their stalls, and both locals and foreigners involved in small-scale businesses have returned to their work.

However, despite the optimism, some business owners say recovery will take time. The unrest caused significant economic losses, with some shops looted and others suffering property damage. Transport operators also reported reduced earnings due to limited working hours during the curfew.

City authorities have assured residents that security has been strengthened across key areas, and they are working closely with business associations to help restore normal economic activity. Police patrols remain in place to prevent any resurgence of violence.

For many Dar es Salaam residents, the lifting of the curfew brings a sense of relief and hope. “We just want peace and the chance to rebuild our businesses,” said one shop owner in Kariakoo.

The government has urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to stabilize the situation and revive the economy.
