Djibouti has taken a major step toward transforming its urban landscape with the launch of Salaam City, a large-scale residential development poised to become the country’s biggest housing project.
The initiative was officially marked by President Ismail Omar Guelleh, whose groundbreaking ceremony signaled the start of an ambitious plan to address the nation’s growing urban demands. Designed as more than just a housing project, Salaam City aims to create a fully integrated community capable of supporting a rapidly expanding population.
The development will feature over 7,000 housing units, alongside essential amenities such as schools, healthcare facilities, a mosque, and commercial centers. By combining residential and social infrastructure within a single, carefully planned layout, the project seeks to establish a “city within a city” that promotes accessibility, organization, and convenience.
