Mathew Nabwiso Says Ugandan Film Industry Is Ready for Global Spotlight

Renowned Ugandan actor and film director Mathew Nabwiso has expressed strong confidence that Uganda’s film industry has the talent needed to shine on the international stage if properly supported and nurtured.

Speaking from his experience in the industry, Nabwiso said he has worked closely with many young actors who are highly skilled, creative, and full of potential. He believes that with the right guidance and opportunities, these local talents can grow into global stars.

Nabwiso emphasized the importance of investing in homegrown talent, saying Uganda already has incredible actors who deserve international recognition. He noted that the industry has made steady progress over the years, pointing to several Ugandan films that have competed in international film festivals and won awards.

According to Nabwiso, these achievements prove that Uganda’s film sector is moving in the right direction. However, he identified film distribution as the biggest challenge holding the industry back. He explained that many good Ugandan films fail to reach wider audiences due to limited distribution channels both locally and internationally.

He added that once the distribution problem is addressed, the industry will be better placed to create internationally recognized celebrities and expand its global presence. Nabwiso also noted that the film industry is already contributing to Uganda’s economy and has the potential to contribute even more to the country’s Gross Domestic Product if given proper support.

Nabwiso called on industry stakeholders, investors, and policymakers to support local filmmakers through better funding, improved distribution networks, and training opportunities. He believes that with collective effort, Uganda’s film industry can grow stronger, create more jobs, and earn its place on the global film map.

As Ugandan cinema continues to evolve, Nabwiso remains optimistic that the future belongs to local talent ready to tell authentic Ugandan stories to the world.
