Police in Diani, Kwale County, have arrested a 36-year-old woman after finding her in possession of a large quantity of narcotic drugs.
The suspect, identified as Hellen Saru Mwajombo, was arrested on Friday by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Officers found her carrying two green gunny bags packed with rolls of cannabis.
According to the DCI, Mwajombo later led detectives to a nearby house where more drugs were discovered. A search of the residence uncovered several additional packages of cannabis hidden inside a black bag and another green gunny bag.
Detectives also impounded a white Nissan Note, registration number KDS 092K, which is believed to have been used to transport the illegal drugs.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue, with authorities seeking to establish whether she is part of a larger drug trafficking network operating along the Coast region.
In a statement, the DCI reaffirmed its commitment to fighting drug trafficking, saying it will continue carrying out sustained operations and working with other agencies to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
