Kampala Ushers in 2026 with Fireworks and Heavy Security

Kampala welcomed the New Year with colourful fireworks and lively celebrations as revelers gathered at different venues across the city to usher in 2026 under tight security.

Crowds thronged popular hotels, bars, and public spaces to celebrate the New Year’s Eve, with fireworks lighting up the night sky shortly after midnight. Major hotels such as Sheraton and Serena hosted well-attended events, drawing both locals and visitors.

Security was visibly heightened across the city, with police and other security agencies deployed at key locations to ensure public safety and prevent any disturbances. Roads around major celebration venues were closely monitored as revelers enjoyed the festivities.

Businesses also benefited from the celebrations, as hotels, entertainment spots, and vendors recorded increased activity during the night.

According to NTV Uganda reporter Mildred Pedun, the celebrations were largely peaceful, with no major incidents reported by the time of filing the report.

The New Year celebrations marked a hopeful start to 2026, with many residents expressing optimism and calling for peace, unity, and prosperity in the year ahead.
