The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains will continue in several parts of the country at the beginning of the week before the weather improves later on.
According to Kenya Met, rainfall is expected in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley itself, the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of north-western and north-eastern Kenya, the Coastal region, and the south-eastern lowlands. Some of these areas may experience thunderstorms with heavy rain.
The department cautioned that the heavy downpours could cause local flooding, poor visibility, and disruptions to transport and outdoor activities. Residents in affected regions have been advised to stay alert and take necessary safety precautions.
As the week progresses, weather conditions are expected to improve, with most parts of the country becoming sunny and dry.
Kenya Met also noted that high temperatures are likely in several regions. Daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coastal region, north-eastern and north-western Kenya, parts of the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and the south-eastern lowlands.
At the same time, cold nights are forecast in high-altitude areas. Temperatures below 10°C may be recorded in parts of the Central Highlands, the North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro.
The department has urged Kenyans to keep following official weather updates, especially during the transition from the festive season to the New Year, to help them plan their activities safely.
