UGANDA: Woman Reportedly Runs Mad After Rejecting Marriage Proposal from Man Who Sponsored Her Education

A community in Nwoya District, Uganda, has been left shocked after a young woman allegedly ran mad shortly after refusing to marry the man who paid for her university education.

According to reports, the man had supported the woman financially for several years, covering all her school fees from secondary school through university. Family members say he had made it clear that he hoped to marry her once she completed her studies.

However, after graduating, the woman reportedly told the man she was not interested in pursuing a relationship or marriage with him. Shortly after the disagreement, her family says she suddenly began showing signs of mental instability.

The woman’s relatives now claim that she may have been bewitched by the man who sponsored her education, accusing him of reacting out of anger and betrayal. They allege that the timing of her condition is “too suspicious to ignore.”

Local leaders and community elders have called for calm, urging the family to seek medical care first before jumping to conclusions. Health workers in the area also advise that sudden mental breakdowns can be caused by stress, trauma, emotional pressure, or underlying medical issues—not necessarily witchcraft.

Police have not confirmed any wrongdoing, and no official complaint has been filed against the sponsor.

The woman is currently receiving treatment as relatives look for further help and answers.
