Police officers in Kigumo Sub-County, Murang’a County, have arrested a man believed to be behind the theft of police uniforms from a station in Nyamira North.
The suspect was captured in an intelligence-led operation carried out by officers from Kangari Police Station. During the arrest, the officers recovered several stolen police items, including jungle trousers, a police shirt with a corporal’s chevron, and a blue police jersey.
The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed that investigations are ongoing to establish how the suspect obtained the uniforms and whether more people are involved. The man is currently being held in custody and will be arraigned in court once the probe is complete.
NPS emphasized that stolen police uniforms pose a serious security risk because criminals can misuse them to deceive the public or commit crimes while posing as officers.
“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to protecting government property and preventing the misuse of police equipment, as such misuse could compromise public safety and security,” NPS said in a statement.
The incident adds to a series of security-related arrests recently reported across the country, including operations against illegal alcohol production and drug trafficking.
