ACT-Wazalendo’s retired party leader Zitto Kabwe has called on the people of Tanga to support the party in upcoming elections, saying it is the only political group with a clear plan to create jobs and revive industries in the region.
Speaking during a well-attended campaign rally on Friday, October 3, along 20th Street in Tanga City, Zitto said the city’s once-vibrant industries have declined due to poor economic policies and neglect.
“Tanga was once known for its factories, from cement to textiles. But now many are closed, and thousands of youth are jobless,” he said. “ACT-Wazalendo is ready to bring back that industrial spirit and ensure every citizen benefits from our natural resources.”
Zitto, who served as the Kigoma Urban MP and former party leader, said ACT-Wazalendo’s development agenda focuses on industrialization, job creation, and fair wealth distribution, especially for the youth and women.
He urged residents to reject empty promises and support leaders with a proven record of transparency and integrity.
“We want a Tanzania where every region contributes to national growth. Tanga has great potential—its port, its industries, and its hardworking people,” he added.
Zitto also praised the government’s ongoing investments in port modernization but urged local leaders to ensure that such projects directly benefit ordinary Tanzanians through employment and business opportunities.
The rally, organized by ACT-Wazalendo’s Tanga regional team, attracted hundreds of supporters waving party flags and chanting slogans calling for change and better economic opportunities.
ACT-Wazalendo is among several opposition parties intensifying campaigns across the country ahead of the 2025 general elections, seeking to position itself as a credible alternative to the ruling party by focusing on economic empowerment and accountability.
