In Uganda, as in many parts of the world, marriage is supposed to be a union built on trust, love, and mutual respect. But for one man from Jinja, that foundation came crashing down in the most unexpected way.
Samuel, a hardworking man in his late thirties, owns a small wholesale shop in the busy town of Jinja. For years, he poured his energy into building the business, using the profits to care for his wife and their two young children.
“I believed I had a good life,” he said. “My wife and I had been through a lot together. We struggled, but we always had each other.”
But everything began to change slowly. Samuel noticed that his wife started acting strangely. She avoided conversations, often seemed distracted, and returned home late after simple errands.
“She was no longer the woman I knew,” Samuel recalled. “She started hiding her phone and getting angry when I asked her where she had been.”
At first, Samuel thought he was overthinking. “I kept telling myself she was just stressed or tired. But deep down, I knew something wasn’t right.”
His worst fears were confirmed one afternoon when he returned to the shop unexpectedly to collect some forgotten documents. What he saw left him in shock.
“I walked into the back room and found my wife and the shopkeeper… together,” Samuel shared, his voice filled with pain. “They didn’t even hear me come in. I stood there frozen. My world just broke.”
Samuel had employed the young male shopkeeper to help manage his busy store while he handled other responsibilities. Little did he know that the very person he trusted to support his business was betraying him behind his back.
Samuel immediately confronted the two, and the confrontation quickly turned emotional. His wife tried to explain, blaming loneliness and feeling neglected. The shopkeeper had nothing to say.
The betrayal hurt Samuel deeply—not just because of the act itself, but because it involved someone he trusted in both his personal and business life.
“I felt like a fool. I was working hard for them, but behind my back, this was happening,” he said.
He asked his wife to leave and fired the shopkeeper the same day. Since then, Samuel has been focusing on rebuilding his life and caring for his children.

“Infidelity can happen to anyone, no matter how strong the relationship seems. But don’t keep silent. Speak up, take action, and protect your peace,” he advised.
