Madagascar Beat Burkina Faso to Join Tanzania in CHAN Quarter-Finals

Madagascar have advanced to the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025 after defeating Burkina Faso 2-1 in their final Group B match played on Saturday, August 16, in Zanzibar.

The victory means Madagascar will join co-hosts Tanzania, who had earlier qualified after a goalless draw against the Central African Republic.

Tanzania topped the group with 10 points after four matches, while Madagascar finished second with seven points, edging out Mauritania on goal difference.

Madagascar made a bright start and took the lead in the 7th minute through Fenohasina Razafimaro. However, Burkina Faso fought back, with Souleymane Sangare equalising in the 25th minute from the penalty spot.

The winning goal came in the 56th minute when Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa converted a penalty after Razafimaro was fouled inside the box.

Despite their spirited effort, Burkina Faso finished third in the group with four points, while the Central African Republic, making their debut in CHAN, ended bottom with just one point.

Madagascar will now face Harambee Stars of Kenya in the quarter-finals, while Tanzania await their opponent from Group A. Both teams will be aiming to continue their impressive form and secure a place in the semi-finals.
