Tanzania’s race for the presidency is gaining momentum as candidates continue to file their nomination papers ahead of the August 27 deadline. On August 10, Coaster Jimmy Kibonde of the Chama Cha Makini Party officially collected his nomination forms from the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
Chairperson of the NEC, Judge Jacobs Mwambegele, handed over the forms to Kibonde while his running mate, Aziza Haji Suleiman, looked on. The commission’s Elections Director, Mr. Ramadhan Kailima, was also present during the ceremony.
Several notable candidates have already picked nomination forms. These include the current President Samia Suluhu Hassan of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, Kunje Ngombale representing the Alliance for African Progress (AAFP), Hassan Almas of the National Reform Alliance (NRA), Doyo Hassan Doyo from the National League for Democracy (NLD), and Twalibu Kadege of the United People’s Democratic Party (UPDP).
The NEC is working diligently to finalize all nominations by August 27, setting the stage for a competitive presidential election.
As the nomination period continues, Tanzanians are watching closely as each candidate lays out their vision and pledges for the country’s future.
