President Museveni Offers UGX 1.2 Billion for Every Uganda Cranes Victory at CHAN 2024

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has offered a reward of UGX 1.2 billion to the Uganda Cranes for every match they win at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

The announcement was made by Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, during a press briefing held at Parliament on Monday, August 4, 2025.

Speaker Among said the President’s gesture shows his deep love and passion for sports in Uganda and strong support for the national football team.

“The President asked me to deliver this message to the Uganda Cranes team. He is very proud of them and wants to encourage them by offering UGX 1.2 billion for every win they secure at CHAN 2024,” she said.

She added that the team is excited and grateful for the generous offer and has promised to stay focused and do their best to make the country proud.

Speaker Among also took the opportunity to thank First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataaha Museveni, for her ongoing support and dedication to the development of sports in Uganda.

“We thank Maama Janet for her passion for games and for always being there for our boys,” she said.

She called on all Ugandans to rally behind the team as they compete on the continental stage.

“Let us support the Uganda Cranes with one voice. These boys are representing us all. When they win, Uganda wins,” she urged.

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) is a major tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that features national teams made up exclusively of players who play in their home country’s domestic leagues. Uganda is among the 18 teams competing in the 2024 edition.

The President’s pledge is seen as a strong morale booster for the team as they continue their campaign in the tournament.
