Guinea’s national team received a colorful and energetic welcome as they arrived in Uganda for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place in Kampala.
The team touched down at Entebbe International Airport in the early hours of August 1 and was greeted with a joyful reception organized by the CHAN 2024 Local Organizing Committee. Traditional Ugandan drumming, dance, and vibrant cultural performances filled the air, creating a festive atmosphere for the 45-member Guinea delegation.
Among the highlights of the welcome ceremony were performances by The Crane Performers, a local cultural group known for their dynamic displays.
They were joined by a performer dressed as a gorilla, symbolizing Uganda’s rich wildlife heritage, and a stilt walker waving Guinea’s national colors. The lively display impressed the visitors, with some of the Guinea players joining in the dancing.
After the welcome, the team was escorted to their official base camp at the Sheraton by Four Points Hotel in Kampala, where they will prepare for their group stage matches.
Guinea will compete in Group C, facing tough competition from Uganda (host nation), Algeria, South Africa, and Niger.
Their tournament journey begins on Monday, August 4, with a match against Niger at the Mandela National Stadium.
The African Nations Championship (CHAN) is a tournament organized by CAF and reserved for players who play in their home countries’ leagues, highlighting local talent from across the continent.
With such a spirited start to their campaign, Guinea will be hoping that the energy and warm reception in Uganda will inspire strong performances on the pitch.
