Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, briefly experienced international outages on Monday, February 16, 2026, affecting users in multiple countries. The disruptions prevented posts from appearing and limited access for some users.
Service was restored by 3:30 p.m. GMT, roughly two hours after outage reports spiked on monitoring website Down Detector. Connectivity tracker Netblocks described the incident as an “international outage” but confirmed it was not caused by government filtering or country-level internet problems.
AFP journalists in countries including France and Thailand reported difficulty accessing X during the outage. Spokespersons for X did not comment before the platform returned to normal.
Since Elon Musk acquired the platform in 2022, renaming it X and merging it with his xAI company, the service has faced intermittent technical issues. The merged entity, which includes Musk’s SpaceX firm, is expected to go public later this year.
The outage follows similar incidents earlier this month, on February 1 and 9, highlighting ongoing challenges for the platform amid restructuring and staff reductions.
Despite the brief disruptions, users were able to resume posting and viewing content once service was restored.
