The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that it will reduce food rations for millions of people in Sudan due to severe funding shortages. The decision was made public on Saturday, December 13, 2025, and comes at a time when humanitarian needs in the country are at their highest.
Sudan is facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises after months of conflict that have forced millions of people to flee their homes. Many families now depend entirely on food aid to survive. However, WFP says it does not have enough money to continue providing full rations to everyone in need.
According to the agency, rising costs, reduced donor funding, and increasing numbers of displaced people have made it impossible to maintain current levels of assistance. As a result, food portions will be reduced in several areas, meaning families will receive less food than before.
WFP warned that these cuts could have serious consequences, especially for children, pregnant women, and the elderly, who are most vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition. The agency stressed that without urgent financial support from international donors, the situation could quickly become worse.
Aid workers on the ground say that many displaced people are already struggling to survive, and any reduction in food supplies will deepen suffering and increase the risk of hunger-related deaths.
WFP has called on the international community to step up support and provide immediate funding to help prevent a further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Sudan.
