The United States Embassy in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, was hit by drones early Tuesday, according to Saudi Arabia’s Defence Ministry, marking another escalation in the growing Middle East conflict.
Saudi authorities confirmed that air defence systems intercepted the drones after they targeted the embassy compound in the city’s Diplomatic Quarter. The strikes reportedly caused a fire within the compound, though there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Images from the scene showed vehicles moving along nearby streets as security forces tightened control around the area. The Diplomatic Quarter, which houses several foreign embassies and diplomatic residences, is considered one of the most secure zones in Riyadh.
The drone attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region following recent military operations involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The broader conflict has seen missile and drone exchanges across multiple countries in the Middle East.
U.S. officials have not yet released detailed information on the extent of the damage, but Washington has previously indicated it would respond firmly to attacks on its diplomatic facilities.
Saudi authorities said investigations are ongoing, and additional security measures have been put in place to protect diplomatic missions in the kingdom.
The incident adds to growing concerns about the stability of the region, as international leaders call for de-escalation to prevent further violence.
