Uganda’s World Cup 2026 qualification hopes remain alive after a resounding 4-0 victory over Mozambique at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, on September Friday 5, 2025, evening.
The emphatic result not only secured the Cranes their fourth win of the campaign but also lifted them to second place in Group G.
The win, confirmed on September 5, 2025, saw Allan Okello open the scoring before Rogers Mato netted twice and Italy-based defender Elio Capradosi sealed the result with a commanding finish.
“I told my players that people were waiting for revenge, and today they showed what football is. We created many chances and kept the pressure on Mozambique. 4-0 is a great result and I am very happy,” Head Coach Paul Put noted.
Despite the dominant display, Put voiced concern about the crowd turnout at Namboole.
“I was a little bit disappointed because I expected a full stadium. For the next game, please come out and support your boys, because the road is still long. But I have to congratulate my players we did a marvellous job today,” he added.
Uganda are now level on 12 points with Mozambique but edge ahead on goal difference, sitting behind group leaders Algeria on 18 points. Guinea and Botswana trail closely with 10 and 9 points respectively, while Somalia remain bottom with just a single point.
The Cranes next host Somalia on Monday at Namboole before facing Botswana and Algeria away in decisive fixtures that will shape their qualification destiny.
