Ugandan Students Create Innovative Solutions but Seek Support to Reach Market

Students from different parts of Uganda are coming up with innovative ideas designed to solve real-life challenges in health, technology, and engineering.

Some of the innovations include a mobile application that allows patients to book appointments with doctors, a robotic machine that can lift heavy loads during surgical operations, and advanced robotics technology that could even be used for space missions such as collecting samples on Mars.

These student-led projects show strong creativity and technical skills, with many of the ideas already at prototype stage and gaining attention. The innovations aim to improve efficiency, safety, and access to services in various sectors, especially healthcare and engineering.

However, despite their progress, the young innovators say they are facing challenges that could slow down the growth of their ideas. They need financial support, mentorship, and access to modern equipment to further develop their prototypes, test them properly, and turn them into products that can be used on a large scale.

The students are calling on government institutions, private investors, and innovation hubs to support their work. They believe that with the right backing, their solutions could be commercialized, create jobs, and contribute to Uganda’s development.

Observers say supporting young innovators is key to building a strong innovation ecosystem in the country and ensuring that home-grown solutions can compete both locally and internationally.
