Ugandan Artisans Get Global Opportunity through U.S. Partnership

Uganda’s local artisans are set to benefit from a new partnership between a U.S.-based craft expert and the Uganda Embassy in Washington, D.C. The collaboration aims to improve the skills of Ugandan creators, promote traditional crafts internationally, and connect artisans to global markets.

The partnership will provide training programs, mentorship sessions, and access to design innovations to help artisans produce high-quality crafts that meet international standards. The expert, whose name has not been disclosed in the initial report, will also work closely with Ugandan artists to teach modern techniques while preserving traditional cultural designs.

Uganda is home to a rich tradition of handmade crafts such as baskets, beadwork, and woven products. However, many artisans struggle with limited market access and lack of exposure to global buyers. By creating this link with U.S.
markets, the initiative will help artisans earn better income, reduce unemployment, and promote Ugandan culture abroad.

The Uganda Embassy says this is just the beginning of a bigger strategy to promote Ugandan art and crafts globally. Plans are underway to create online platforms for selling crafts, organize international exhibitions, and build a sustainable export market for Ugandan handmade products.
