Police in Uganda have increased the cash reward to UGX 60 million for information leading to the arrest of suspects involved in the shocking murder of an elderly couple in Entebbe.
David Mutaaga (69) and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga (62) were found murdered in their home in early September, sending shockwaves through the Entebbe community and beyond.
The case has drawn national attention due to the brutality of the crime and the slow pace of arrests.
While announcing the reward increase, Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma confirmed that investigations are still ongoing.
“We continue to search for those behind the murder of Mr. and Mrs. Mutaaga. We had earlier offered UGX 50 million, but this has now been raised to UGX 60 million to encourage more people to come forward,” said Kituuma.
Police have released a photo and a voice recording of one suspect believed to be connected to the killings. Authorities hope that public cooperation will lead to arrests soon.
Kituuma also addressed media reports—especially one from New Vision on September 12, 2025—which claimed police had already identified the actual suspects.
“For clarity, we highlighted individuals whom our investigative sources suspect may be connected to the crime. However, no conclusive evidence has yet been established,” he clarified.
Police will only release full identities of the suspects once there is strong proof of their involvement.
The murder has left many in Entebbe feeling fearful and angry.
Community members and leaders are calling for justice and better protection for residents. Some have also criticized the delay in making arrests despite weeks of investigation.
Local leaders have urged the public to assist police by reporting any suspicious behavior or known connections to the case. All information will be treated confidentially.
Authorities say they are following strong leads, but need the public’s help to track down the suspects. The UGX 60 million reward is currently one of the largest ever offered in a private murder investigation in Uganda.
