UGANDA: PLE Results: Girls Outperform Boys in English

Kampala, Uganda — Girls outperformed boys in the English subject in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), according to results released by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

Education Minister Janet Kataha Museveni announced the results on January 23, 2025, noting that while girls led in English, boys performed better in other core subjects, including Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

The performance trend highlights a continued gender gap across different learning areas, with girls showing stronger language skills while boys maintained an advantage in numeracy and science-related subjects.

The ministry said the results would inform future policy decisions aimed at addressing subject-specific disparities and improving overall learning outcomes at the primary level.
