A court in Pader District has convicted a man for committing a sexual act with a goat after medical evidence confirmed the animal had been assaulted.
The case was heard before Acting Chief Magistrate Martins Kirya, who ruled that the prosecution had presented clear and credible evidence proving the offence beyond reasonable doubt. The incident took place in Angangura Sub-county, where local residents reported finding the goat in distress and alerted authorities.
According to the veterinary report presented in court, Dr. Maureen Grace Birungi examined the two-and-a-half-year-old goat and found injuries consistent with forced penetration. The report showed the animal was struggling to stand, constantly bleating, licking its hindquarters, and had redness and bruising in the birth canal.
Magistrate Kirya said the evidence from both witnesses and the veterinary examination left no doubt that the animal had suffered sexual abuse. He noted that such acts not only violate Uganda’s animal cruelty laws but also pose public health risks and reflect moral decay within communities.
The convict is expected to return to court for sentencing, where he may face imprisonment, a fine, or both, depending on the weight of the offence and the court’s discretion.
Local leaders have condemned the act, urging the public to report cases of animal abuse and stressing the need for community sensitization on humane treatment of animals.
The case has sparked debate in Pader District, with residents calling for stronger penalties to deter similar crimes in the future.
