Uganda on Track to Produce First Oil, Energy Ministry Says

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has assured Ugandans that the country is on course to produce its first oil by the middle of this year. Officials say there is no reason for public concern, as all preparations are progressing according to plan.

Speaking to NTV Uganda, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Irene Bateebe, said key oil projects are moving forward as scheduled. She explained that construction works, technical installations, and coordination with partners are being closely monitored to ensure deadlines are met.

Uganda has been preparing for oil production for several years, with major investments in oil fields, processing facilities, and supporting infrastructure such as roads and pipelines. The start of oil production is expected to mark an important milestone for the country’s economy.

The government believes first oil will help increase national revenue, create jobs, and support development in sectors such as infrastructure, health, and education. However, officials have also emphasized the importance of managing the oil resources responsibly to avoid environmental damage and ensure communities benefit.

Bateebe reassured the public that safety, environmental protection, and international standards remain a priority as Uganda moves closer to becoming an oil-producing nation.

With first oil now expected in the middle of the year, the Energy Ministry says it remains confident that Uganda’s long-awaited oil journey is finally becoming a reality.
