UGANDA: KCCA Unveils Bigger, More Inclusive Kampala City Festival 2026

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has officially launched preparations for the 2026 Kampala City Festival, set to take place on October 4, 2026, across major streets in Kampala. The announcement marks the beginning of what promises to be a more inclusive and city-wide celebration.

The launch was made during an appreciation event at KCCA headquarters, where partners who contributed to the success of previous festivals were recognized. The gathering highlighted the collaborative effort behind organizing one of Kampala’s most anticipated public events.

Reflecting on the 2025 edition, which was held at Kololo Independence Grounds and drew massive crowds, KCCA Executive Director Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki commended sponsors and partners for their unwavering support.

“We thank all our partners for standing with us and enabling us to deliver what the people of Kampala expect from this festival,” Buzeki said.

Among those recognized was Next Media, applauded for its extensive coverage across multiple platforms, including digital channels. The media house received a certificate of appreciation in acknowledgment of its contribution.

Buzeki also revealed that the 2025 festival was a financial success, completed without any outstanding debts. The event raised over Shs700 million in cash, alongside in-kind contributions exceeding Shs800 million—demonstrating strong public and private sector support.

Looking ahead, KCCA announced a major shift in how the 2026 festival will be organized. Unlike previous editions held in a single venue, this year’s celebration will spread across different streets in Kampala to allow broader public participation.

“We have decided to take the festival to the streets so that more Ugandans can enjoy and celebrate their city,” Buzeki explained.

She added that preparations have begun early to give sponsors ample time to come on board, ensuring a smooth planning process without last-minute pressure.

KCCA believes this new format will make the festival more accessible, inclusive, and reflective of Kampala’s vibrant urban culture. By bringing the celebration directly to the people, the 2026 Kampala City Festival is expected to create a more immersive and memorable experience for residents and visitors alike.
