UGANDA: Kampala City Festival Set for a Grand Comeback in 2025

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has officially announced the return of the Kampala City Festival, one of East Africa’s biggest street celebrations. After years of silence, the vibrant city event is set to make a bold comeback with the 2025 edition, promising to be “bigger, better, and bolder.”

The news was confirmed in a press release by KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki, who revealed that the festival will be launched on August 6, 2025, at City Hall. The exact date for the main festival will be announced during the launch event.

“This will be a celebration of our culture, innovation, creativity, and community spirit,” Buzeki said. “It’s not just about fun– but about coming together as a city, recognising how far we’ve come, and renewing our commitment to building a cleaner and more liveable Kampala.”

The Kampala City Festival is not just a party it’s a signature event that unites people of all ages and backgrounds. First launched in 2014, it attracted more than 2 million revellers, becoming the largest street party in East Africa.

The festival is known for, Celebrating culture and diversity, Showcasing music, dance, fashion, and art, Providing networking opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses, Boosting local tourism and trade and promoting community pride and creativity.

The festival also serves as a major economic boost for the city, allowing businesses and organizations to showcase their products, grow their reach, and connect with thousands of potential clients in a vibrant, inclusive environment.

According to KCCA, this year’s edition will feature, live music and dance performances, Food and craft markets, Children’s play zones, Cultural exhibitions, Community parades and Business showcases.

The 2025 edition is especially meaningful as it marks Kampala’s post-pandemic revival, and a chance for residents to reconnect and celebrate the city’s unique identity.

The return of the Kampala City Festival is a strong signal that the city is ready to embrace joy, progress, and unity once again.
