UGANDA: Entebbe Airport Breaks Record with Highest-Ever Monthly Traffic in July 2025

Entebbe International Airport has set a new milestone in Uganda’s aviation history by recording its highest-ever monthly passenger traffic in July 2025. A total of 230,577 travelers passed through the airport, surpassing the previous record of 222,301 passengers set in December 2024.

The announcement was made by Vianney M. Luggya, Spokesperson of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), during a press conference held on August 20, 2025, at the airport.

Out of the total traffic recorded in July, 119,127 were arrivals, while 111,450 were departures, averaging 7,437 passengers per day.

“Notably, arrivals exceeded departures throughout the month, reflecting strong inbound movement,” this surge reflects Uganda’s growing appeal as both a tourism and business destination,” Luggya. Said.

Several factors contributed to this remarkable growth. Among them were the influx of delegations and fans for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which Uganda hosted earlier this year, aggressive tourism promotions by the Uganda Tourism Board, multiple high-profile international conferences held in Kampala, and expanded flight routes by regional and international airlines.

Beyond just passenger numbers, cargo traffic also saw significant movement. Entebbe Airport handled 5,863 metric tons of cargo in July alone. Of this, 3,961 metric tons were exports, while 1,900 metric tons were imports.

“The higher volume of exports relative to imports continues to contribute positively to Uganda’s economy,” it shows not only the resilience of our export sector but also the strategic role of Entebbe Airport as a trade gateway,” Luggya noted.

Entebbe International Airport’s performance is a strong indicator of recovery and growth in Uganda’s aviation sector, which had been severely affected during the COVID-19 pandemic years.

The airport has steadily regained momentum, and the latest figures confirm its status as a key regional hub for both passenger travel and air cargo logistics.

Authorities at the airport say plans are underway to expand and modernize facilities to meet growing demand, improve customer experience, and position Uganda as a premier air travel destination in East Africa.

With more events lined up and continuous efforts to market the country globally, experts predict that these numbers may continue to climb in the coming months.
