Uganda and Tanzania have started strongly at the CECAFA Zonal CAF African Schools Football Championship, keeping a 100% winning record in the Girls’ category. The tournament kicked off on Saturday at the FUFA Stadium Kadiba in Uganda.
In Group A, host Uganda won both of their opening matches. They narrowly defeated Burundi 2-1, with goals from Lydia Namaseruka and Grace Kawino, while Chantal Nitibitanga scored for Burundi. In their second match, Uganda beat Rwanda 2-0, with Namaseruka scoring both goals. “I am very happy to have scored three goals and to help my team win both matches on the first day,” said a delighted Namaseruka.
Meanwhile, Tanzania dominated Group B, winning 2-1 against South Sudan in their first match and crushing Djibouti 6-0 in their second. Tanzanian striker Sulemani Hajra scored four goals in the big win over Djibouti. Ethiopia, returning to the Zonal qualifiers for the first time since 2022, also recorded a huge 10-0 victory against Djibouti.
Kenya, which arrived in Uganda on Saturday after traveling by road from Nairobi, started their campaign with a goalless draw against Rwanda in Group A.

Uganda and Tanzania’s early victories make them strong favorites to advance from the zonal qualifiers and continue their impressive performance in the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
