Uganda Airlines and Air India Partner to Boost Africa-Asia Travel and Trade

In a major boost for air travel between Africa and Asia, Uganda Airlines and Air India have signed a strategic interline agreement to expand flight connections between the two regions.

The new partnership links Entebbe International Airport to more than 25 Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. It also allows travelers to connect to major hubs like Singapore, Bangkok, Colombo, and London Heathrow — all on a single ticket.

This deal creates new and faster routes for both African and Indian travelers:
From Africa to Asia: Passengers from Uganda and neighboring countries can now connect to India and other Asian destinations without relying on traditional Gulf hubs like Dubai or Doha.

From Asia to Africa: Indian passengers can easily access destinations across East and Southern Africa — including Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria — through Uganda Airlines.

The arrangement simplifies travel by eliminating multiple bookings, allowing baggage to be checked through to the final destination, and cutting layover times.

The partnership is expected to strengthen trade, education, and tourism ties between India and Africa.
India is already one of Uganda’s largest trading partners, with thousands of Indian nationals living and working in the country.

Improved air links are likely to increase business travel, student exchanges, and tourist arrivals from India, boosting Uganda’s economy.

While major African and Gulf carriers like Ethiopian Airlines and Emirates have long dominated Africa-Asia routes, this deal positions Entebbe as a new gateway for regional connectivity.

“This is a game changer for passengers who want direct, convenient, and affordable connections between Africa and Asia,” said a senior official from Uganda Airlines.

Industry experts say such partnerships between smaller airlines could make air travel more competitive and reduce overdependence on major hubs.

The move could inspire other African carriers to sign similar agreements, further diversifying Africa-Asia travel options.

As Uganda continues to market itself as a hub for tourism and investment, this partnership may attract more travelers seeking unique cultural and wildlife experiences — from gorilla trekking in Bwindi to the Nile’s source in Jinja.

Travelers are encouraged to check flight schedules early and take advantage of competitive prices and convenient itineraries under the new agreement.
