Uganda Advances Emerging Technologies Strategy Through Multi-Stakeholder Consultations

Ministry of ICT and National Guidance Uganda has taken a major step toward shaping the country’s digital future by convening sector-focused discussions to support the development of Uganda’s National Emerging Technologies Strategy.

The consultations brought together stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and the private sector to collaboratively define how emerging technologies can be integrated into Uganda’s national development agenda. Discussions focused on technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, robotics, cloud computing, and quantum computing.

Participants explored practical applications, policy frameworks, and the infrastructure needed to leverage these technologies across sectors such as finance, healthcare, agriculture, and public service delivery. The initiative reflects Uganda’s intent to position itself as a forward-looking digital economy, proactively developing regulations and frameworks to guide innovation and adoption.

The Ministry emphasized that the strategy will be instrumental in helping institutions, businesses, and society adapt to technological change over the coming decades. Insights from the focus groups are expected to inform policy decisions, investment priorities, and regulatory approaches, ensuring that Uganda’s strategy aligns with both global trends and local development needs.

These sessions are part of a broader consultative process aimed at ensuring that the National Emerging Technologies Strategy is inclusive, forward-looking, and designed to accelerate digital transformation and economic growth across the country.

This initiative places Uganda among the leading African nations actively preparing for the future of emerging technologies, aiming to foster innovation while addressing local socio-economic challenges.
