Son Heung-min, the beloved captain of Tottenham Hotspur, has announced that he will leave the club this summer, ending his incredible 10-year journey with the English Premier League side.
At a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, the 33-year-old star became emotional as he shared the news.
“I came to London at 23, a young boy who didn’t speak English. Now I’m leaving as a proud man,” Son said. “This was the hardest decision of my career.”
Son confirmed his departure just days before Tottenham plays Newcastle United in a friendly match in Seoul — which could be his final game in a Spurs shirt.
He expressed deep gratitude to Tottenham fans:
“You made me feel like North London was my home. I’ll never forget the love and support you gave me.”
In May 2025, Son finally lifted his first major European trophy — the Europa League — after Tottenham defeated Manchester United in the final. It was also the club’s first trophy since 2008.
“I wanted that title so badly. I dreamt about it every night,” Son said after the match. “Now, I can finally sleep peacefully.”
Since joining Spurs in 2015, Son has become one of the Premier League’s most admired stars, scoring 173 goals in 454 matches. He was named club captain in 2023 and remained a fan favorite throughout.
New head coach Thomas Frank, who took over in June, praised Son’s legacy:
“He’s a Spurs legend. One of the best wingers to ever play in the league. Leaving after winning a trophy is perfect timing.”
Son hasn’t revealed where he’ll play next. Reports suggest interest from Major League Soccer (USA) and Saudi Arabian clubs, but Son says he’s still undecided.
“I don’t know my next destination yet. My focus right now is on the 2026 World Cup. It could be my last, and I want to give it everything.”
Son’s story is one of growth, determination, and loyalty. From a quiet young man arriving in North London to a trophy-winning captain and national hero, his legacy at Spurs is secure.
As he leaves the club, fans across the world will watch closely to see what his next chapter holds — but one thing is clear: He leaves as a legend.
