TANZANIA: Woman Dies While Trying to Save Money from House Fire in Shinyanga

A tragic incident happened in Shinyanga Municipality where a woman lost her life while trying to retrieve money from her burning house.

The fire broke out on Mwasele Street in Kambarage Ward on Tuesday. According to witnesses, the woman was inside her house when a fire suddenly started. Neighbours said flames spread quickly, forcing people to run outside for safety.

As the fire grew stronger, the woman reportedly remembered that she had kept cash inside the house. She went back into the burning building to try to save the money. Sadly, she was trapped by the fire and could not escape in time. She died at the scene before help could arrive.

The Shinyanga Regional Fire and Rescue Force operations officer, Mr Edward Selemani, confirmed the incident. He said initial investigations showed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault. Firefighters arrived and managed to put out the fire, but the house had already been completely destroyed.

Local leaders and residents expressed deep sadness over the incident. They warned people not to go back into burning buildings, no matter how valuable the items inside may be. They also advised residents to regularly check electrical wiring in their homes to prevent similar accidents.

The woman’s body was taken to a nearby health facility, while police continue with investigations. The incident has left the family and the community in mourning.
