Tanzania has secured a Sh24 billion grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to support climate resilience efforts, the government announced on December 12, 2025.
The funding will finance the Enhancing Climate Resilience on Water Resources in Mkondoa Catchment project under the AfDB’s Climate Action Window. The project aims to protect water resources, improve water management, and reduce the impact of climate change on local communities in the Mkondoa region.
The grant will also support initiatives to strengthen community preparedness, enhance agricultural productivity, and safeguard livelihoods against climate-related risks such as droughts and floods.
Officials said the project aligns with Tanzania’s broader national climate adaptation strategies and will contribute to sustainable water management and environmental protection.
The AfDB’s Climate Action Window focuses on financing projects that increase resilience to climate change in Africa, helping countries protect natural resources while promoting economic growth.
This grant is expected to benefit local communities, farmers, and water-dependent industries, ensuring long-term environmental and economic sustainability in the Mkondoa Catchment area.
Tanzania has been actively seeking international support to strengthen climate adaptation and mitigate the effects of climate change, especially in water-scarce regions. This new funding represents a major step forward in the country’s climate resilience efforts.
