DAR ES SALAAM — Tanzania and Qatar have agreed to strengthen cooperation in sports, tourism, culture, and investment following high-level discussions in Dar es Salaam.
The agreement was reached during a meeting at the Qatar Embassy between Qatari Ambassador Ahmed Abdulla Al-Dossari and Tanzania’s Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Minister Makonda expressed appreciation for the strong bilateral ties between the two countries, noting progress in development cooperation, investment, and strategic diplomacy. He emphasized Tanzania’s commitment to expanding partnerships that bring economic and cultural benefits.
Focus on AFCON 2027 Preparations
A major point of discussion was Tanzania’s preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027. The minister outlined:

Expanding the tourism sector
Makonda highlighted the importance of learning from Qatar’s experience in hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022, particularly in infrastructure development, event management, and maximizing economic impact through sports.
Commitment to Collaboration
Ambassador Al-Dossari reaffirmed Qatar’s readiness to enhance cooperation through knowledge exchange, facilitating official visits, and advancing joint initiatives.
Both nations agreed to accelerate formal agreements and implement collaborative projects aimed at boosting sports development, cultural exchange, tourism growth, and investment opportunities — strengthening the strategic and economic partnership between Tanzania and Qatar.
