TANZANIA: Cashew Farmers Earn Sh1.3 Trillion as Harvest Nears Record High

Cashew farmers in Tanzania have earned about Sh1.3 trillion as cashew nut production moves toward a record high, according to industry officials. The strong performance has been driven by good weather, improved farming practices, and better prices in the local and international markets.

Farmers across major cashew-producing regions have reported higher yields this season. Government support, including the distribution of subsidised inputs, extension services, and better market access, has helped farmers increase both the quality and quantity of their harvests.

Officials say the ongoing buying season has attracted strong competition from traders, which has pushed prices up and increased farmers’ incomes. Many farmers are now able to meet household needs, invest in farming equipment, and support education and healthcare for their families.

The cashew sector is one of Tanzania’s key agricultural industries and a major source of foreign exchange. Authorities say the strong earnings will contribute positively to the national economy and help boost rural development.

With harvesting and sales still ongoing, experts believe total earnings could rise further if favourable conditions continue. The government has encouraged farmers to maintain quality standards to ensure Tanzanian cashews remain competitive on the global market.

As production heads toward a historic high, the success of the cashew industry is being seen as a sign of growing resilience and potential within Tanzania’s agricultural sector.
