Tanzania and Uganda Pledge Stronger Ties and Deeper Regional Cooperation

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni have agreed to strengthen relations between their two countries and boost cooperation across the East African region.

The pledge was made on Saturday in Dar es Salaam, at the end of President Museveni’s official visit to Tanzania. The two leaders held bilateral talks and later addressed the media at a joint press conference.

President Samia said Tanzania and Uganda share a long history of friendship and cooperation, especially in trade, security, infrastructure, and energy development. She noted that closer ties are essential for regional peace and economic growth.

“Our countries are committed to working together to promote stability, economic progress, and the well-being of our people,” President Samia said.

President Museveni echoed her remarks, stressing the importance of regional unity in addressing common challenges such as insecurity, climate change, and economic development. He said East African countries must work together to unlock their full potential.

Focus on trade, security, and infrastructure

During the visit, the leaders discussed ways to improve cross-border trade, remove barriers to business, and strengthen transport links between the two countries. They also talked about cooperation in energy projects, including oil and gas development, as well as electricity transmission.

Security cooperation was another key topic, with both leaders agreeing to continue working together to combat cross-border crime and regional instability.

Regional cooperation a priority

The meeting also highlighted the importance of regional bodies such as the East African Community (EAC). Both leaders said stronger regional integration would help boost trade, create jobs, and improve living standards across East Africa.

President Museveni thanked Tanzania for its hospitality and praised the country’s role in promoting peace and cooperation in the region.

Looking ahead

The visit reaffirmed the strong relationship between Tanzania and Uganda and signaled renewed commitment to deeper cooperation. Officials from both countries are expected to follow up on the agreements reached, with the goal of turning discussions into practical action.

The leaders said continued dialogue and collaboration would help ensure peace, stability, and shared prosperity for both nations and the wider region.
