The Sudanese government has urgently appealed to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to investigate and take action against states or entities allegedly financing and arming the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), accused of serious atrocities in the war-torn Darfur region.
Speaking at the Sudanese Embassy in Nairobi, Sudan’s Ambassador to Kenya, Mohamed Osman, urged the international community to impose strict measures to halt the flow of weapons and financial backing sustaining the RSF insurgency. He emphasized that decisive action is essential to de-escalate the escalating humanitarian and security crisis.
“Those fueling the conflict by providing arms or financial aid must be held accountable. Cutting off these supply lines is essential to ending the suffering of innocent civilians,” Ambassador Osman stated.
Alarmed by reports that RSF supporters continue recruiting and importing foreign mercenaries from neighboring countries to strengthen the rebel campaign, the ambassador condemned these efforts as deliberate attempts to prolong instability and deepen the suffering of Sudanese citizens.
The situation in North Darfur is described as catastrophic, with widespread atrocities and grave human rights violations amid intensified fighting between government forces and RSF fighters.
Calling out the “deafening silence” of the international community, Osman warned that failure to act amounts to “a betrayal of Sudan’s vulnerable population,” urging global powers and humanitarian organizations to intervene and restore peace, justice, and dignity.
“The international community cannot remain indifferent while civilians are being slaughtered and displaced. Sudan needs solidarity and concrete action, not statements of concern,” he added.
The ambassador further highlighted the sharp deterioration of the humanitarian situation caused by conflict-related disruption of critical services, including healthcare, food supply, and communication networks.
