My name is Robert, and I come from Entebbe, a peaceful town by the shores of Lake Victoria in Uganda. For many years, I worked hard—day and night—so I could build a better future for myself and the woman I loved.
She was the love of my life. We had talked about marriage, children, and even building a house together. When she told me she wanted to travel to the United States for a better life, I didn’t hesitate. I believed in her. I believed in us.
To make her dream come true, I sold part of my land, borrowed money from friends, and emptied all my savings. I paid for her visa, ticket, passport, and everything she needed to travel. I did all of this with a happy heart because I was sure she would never forget my sacrifice.
When she arrived in America, she was grateful—at first. She called to say thank you and promised that once she got a job, she would send me money and even help bring me over there too.
But that promise didn’t last.
After a few weeks, her calls became less frequent. Her tone changed. She started ignoring my messages. One day, she simply told me it was over. Just like that. No explanation. No goodbye.
I was shocked. Heartbroken. I couldn’t eat. I couldn’t sleep. My friends noticed I had lost weight. My business started collapsing because my mind was never settled. I kept asking myself, “Why would she do this to me? After everything I gave up for her?”
I never got an answer.
That experience changed me. I realized that sometimes, love can blind us to the truth. I gave everything—money, time, trust—to someone who was only thinking about herself. It’s painful, but I have learned my lesson.
Now, I’m slowly picking myself up. My business is recovering, and I’m focusing on healing emotionally. I haven’t given up on love, but I will never again sacrifice so much without seeing true commitment from the other person.
To all men and women out there: be careful who you invest in. Love is not just about words—it’s about actions. Before you give your all to someone, make sure they are willing to give the same back.
I paid for her dream, but she left me with a broken heart. I share my story so others don’t make the same mistake.
