President William Ruto has said the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will continue working with other political parties to build a strong, inclusive political coalition aimed at moving Kenya forward ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County on Saturday, the President said the country’s future lies in unity, political collaboration, and inclusive governance under the broad-based government framework.
Unity and Shared Prosperity
President Ruto said Kenya’s long-standing challenge has been inequitable sharing of national resources, arguing that unity is the key to sustainable development.
“For a long time, the bigger challenge in Kenya has been sharing the small cake we have. We now have a strategy to bake a bigger cake for everybody to share,” he said, adding that one group does not have to lose for another to gain.
He emphasized that the broad-based government is designed to ensure no Kenyan is left behind, regardless of political affiliation.
Addressing UDA Grassroots Leaders
The President was addressing more than 17,000 UDA grassroots leaders from Nyeri County, who were recently elected as polling centre officials. The meeting formed part of UDA’s efforts to strengthen party structures at the grassroots level.
Those present included Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Members of Parliament, and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa.
President Ruto said Kenya needs bold and visionary leadership, strong national political parties, and unity of purpose to sustain development beyond individual leaders or election cycles.
“A political party is the most important instrument in ensuring continuity and consolidating national transformation,” he said.
Rejecting Divisive Politics
The President called on Kenyans to reject politics rooted in hatred, violence, and tribalism, warning that such divisions hinder national development.
“Leadership, politics, and development are achieved through humility, patience, hard work, and unity,” he said, pledging to use his office to promote cohesion and national unity.
Development Record and Future Projects
President Ruto said his administration has stabilized the economy over the past three years and implemented reforms in agriculture, healthcare, and education, while creating millions of jobs.
Looking ahead, he outlined major infrastructure projects, including:
Construction of 30,000 kilometres of roads, with 2,500 kilometres of dual carriageways
Expansion of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to Kisumu and onward to the Uganda border
Modernisation of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA)
Development of the Bomas International Convention Centre and Talanta Stadium
Strengthening UDA Party Structures
On party matters, President Ruto, who is also the UDA party leader, said he will hold meetings with grassroots leaders in all counties and urged officials to manage party affairs effectively.
He said UDA will conduct ward, constituency, county, and national elections to further strengthen the party, noting that 580,000 polling centre officials have already been elected nationwide.
According to the President, 2.4 million members participated in UDA grassroots elections held last week, demonstrating the party’s growing national footprint.
Nyeri Development Commitments
Focusing on Nyeri County, President Ruto said the government has allocated:
Sh4 billion for road construction
Sh21 billion for affordable housing, markets, and hostels
Sh1.4 billion to expand electricity connectivity
He noted that Mau Mau roads, which stood at 20 per cent completion in 2022, are now between 60 and 70 per cent complete and are expected to be finished later this year.
“No project will stall in Nyeri County under my watch,” the President said.
Leaders Weigh In
MP Kimani Ichung’wa said the Mt Kenya region identifies with UDA because it is a national party committed to uniting all Kenyans.
Governor Cecily Mbarire praised women’s participation in party leadership, noting that 36.5 per cent of elected UDA officials are women.
