Ruto Hails Trump for Renewed Kenya–US Partnership After High-Level Talks in Washington

President William Ruto has described his latest meeting with United States President Donald Trump as a “watershed moment” for Kenya–US relations, saying the discussions mark the beginning of a stronger and more focused partnership between the two countries.

Ruto, who is in Washington, D.C., at Trump’s invitation, shared a detailed message on X highlighting the outcomes of the high-level engagements. His visit also coincided with the signing of the Rwanda–DRC peace agreement, which both leaders witnessed.

The Kenyan president praised the United States for approving a massive Ksh.208 billion health package that will strengthen Kenya’s health system, support medical facilities, and accelerate progress toward universal health coverage.

Ruto said the deal will save lives, improve community health, and boost Kenya’s long-term development goals.

Boost to Trade, Technology, and Investment

Ruto also expressed optimism about future cooperation in key economic sectors. He said discussions with the Trump administration focused on:

Increasing American investment in African manufacturing

Opening new markets for Kenyan products

Supporting Kenya’s digital economy

Expanding infrastructure and green energy initiatives

He noted that Washington’s growing interest in Kenya’s tech and innovation economy shows a shared commitment to prosperity for both nations.

The President praised the US for its continued support for peace efforts in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region. He said he held “pivotal discussions” with President Trump on:

He emphasized that these areas are essential for a stable and peaceful region.

Ruto said he values President Trump’s “personal leadership” in revitalizing the relationship between the two countries, adding that his administration is committed to turning the agreements into real benefits for Kenyan citizens.

The trip marks one of the most significant diplomatic engagements between the two governments since Trump returned to office, and signals a new chapter of cooperation in health, security, trade, and regional peace efforts.
