President Samia Calls for Increased Investment in Tourist Hotels Ahead of Zanzibar Revolution

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged investors to increase investment in tourist hotels and hospitality infrastructure as part of efforts to strengthen Zanzibar’s tourism sector and boost economic growth.

The President made the remarks on Friday, January 9, 2026, while inaugurating the Jaz Elite Aurora Hotel in the South Unguja Region. The event formed part of activities leading up to the celebrations marking the 62nd anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution, which is commemorated annually on January 12.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Samia emphasised that tourism remains one of Zanzibar’s key economic pillars, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings, employment creation and community development. She noted that continued investment in high-quality accommodation facilities is essential to meeting the growing demand from international and domestic tourists.

She encouraged both local and foreign investors to take advantage of Zanzibar’s conducive investment climate, improved infrastructure and government incentives aimed at expanding the tourism and hospitality industry. According to the President, modern hotels not only enhance the visitor experience but also create jobs for youth and stimulate growth in related sectors such as agriculture, transport and services.

President Samia further reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting private sector-led growth by improving access to utilities, transport networks and security, while ensuring environmental sustainability in tourism development. She stressed the importance of responsible investment that preserves Zanzibar’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The inauguration of the Jaz Elite Aurora Hotel, a high-end facility designed to cater to international tourists, was highlighted as a reflection of growing investor confidence in Zanzibar’s tourism potential. The President said such investments align with the government’s broader strategy to position Zanzibar as a competitive and premium tourism destination in the region.

The hotel launch comes as Zanzibar prepares to mark 62 years since the 1964 Revolution, with the government using the anniversary celebrations to showcase development achievements and attract further investment into strategic sectors, including tourism.
