Kakamega, Kenya – President William Ruto has challenged opposition leaders to focus on clear policies and development plans instead of political slogans and personal attacks.
Speaking on Thursday, January 1, 2026, during the Governor Fernandes Barasa Cup final at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County, the President accused the opposition of lacking ideas and a proven development record.
Ruto told the opposition to present their track records to Kenyans, saying leadership should be based on results, not protests or chants.
“Every leader should come with their record. I am ready to present mine here in Kakamega. Empty talk is not enough. They must look for policies, plans, and a vision. Saying ‘one term must go’ is not enough,” Ruto said.
The President also criticised Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, questioning his ability to lead the country, arguing that he had failed to deliver development even in his own home region.
Ruto used the event to highlight his government’s development agenda and promised to upgrade Bukhungu Stadium to a 25,000-seat modern facility, complete with a canopy, by the end of the year.
Governor Fernandes Barasa assured the President of Kakamega’s political support and pledged to work closely with the national government to deliver key development projects, including roads, housing, and sports infrastructure.
The President’s remarks come as political temperatures rise ahead of the 2027 General Election, with both government and opposition leaders intensifying campaigns across the country.
