Heavy rains over the weekend caused severe flooding across Nairobi, leaving roads submerged, homes damaged, and parts of the city stranded. The flooding was worsened by the overflow of the Nairobi River and Ngong River.
In response, President William Ruto assured the public that the government is “fully mobilised” to manage the emergency and protect affected communities.
Government Response
A multi-agency response team of emergency services, security agencies, humanitarian groups, and technical departments is coordinating rescue and relief operations.
Authorities are clearing blocked drainage systems and restoring access routes in flooded areas.
National and County governments are providing emergency food supplies and medical assistance to those impacted.
President Ruto urged residents to follow guidance from the Kenya Meteorological Department and police to ensure their safety.

The Kenya Red Cross Society reported that 13 people were rescued, including 11 passengers stranded in a matatu on Bunyala Road and two children trapped in a house in Kilimani.

“The ongoing heavy rains affecting several parts of our country continue to put lives and livelihoods at risk. My thoughts are with the families and communities that have already been affected during this difficult period,” said President Ruto.
He emphasized that the government is taking all necessary steps to safeguard lives, support affected communities, and ensure that no Kenyan faces this challenge alone.
