President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially opened PRO Industries Pte Limited, a new ethanol and extra-neutral alcohol (ENA) factory in Ndibulungi Village, Luwero District.
The President was accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Kataha Museveni. He praised the company for supporting agro-industrialization, adding value to farm products, and promoting clean energy in Uganda.
President Museveni said the government is committed to improving workers’ welfare, reducing production costs such as electricity and transport, and supporting industries to create more jobs and grow the economy. He also urged Ugandans to support the NRM in the coming elections to protect and strengthen the progress made in industrial development.
The Managing Director of PRO Industries, Ms. Ridhi Always, said the Luwero plant is the largest ENA and ethanol factory in East Africa. It can produce 120,000 litres of extra-neutral alcohol and 35,000 litres of ethanol every day.
She explained that the company has invested 100 million US dollars in the plant and works with over 2,000 local farmers who supply maize from Luwero and nearby districts. Ms. Always also noted that Uganda will begin mandatory ethanol blending in all petroleum products from January 2026, in line with Vision 2040 and the Biofuels Act of 2020.
According to her, ethanol blending will help Uganda reduce its annual petroleum import bill of about 2 billion US dollars and protect the environment by promoting cleaner energy. She thanked the government for providing peace, security, and stable policies that have allowed investors to grow and contribute to Uganda’s economic transformation.
