ODM Leaders Promise to Keep Government Accountable Despite Partnership

At the funeral of former Rarieda MP Bob Jalang’o Nyanduga, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga spoke about his decision to work with President William Ruto under the broad-based government initiative. Odinga said he has no regrets about joining the government, explaining that it was a necessary step to protect the country from chaos.

He reminded Kenyans that at the time of the partnership, the nation was facing massive protests and was close to falling into disorder. “It was necessary to take emergency measures to keep the country from falling off the edge,” Odinga said. “We had to make compromises for the good of the nation, and we do not regret that decision.”

Despite the collaboration, Odinga raised concerns about corruption, which he said remains a major barrier to development and good governance in Kenya. “You cannot develop unless you tame this animal called corruption,” he warned. “It exists in almost every aspect of our lives today. We need to fight it in all our spheres.”

Siaya Governor James Orengo assured the public that Odinga remains committed to reforms and positive change. He said the ODM leader has not abandoned the values that have guided his political career. “My party leader is guided by ideals of reform and change, and he never forgets that he is a messenger of the people of Kenya,” Orengo said.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that ODM’s role as a watchdog will not weaken despite being part of the government. He reminded Kenyans that ODM remains the minority party in the National Assembly and will continue to hold the executive accountable.

This message comes at a time when Kenyans closely watch the partnership between ODM and Kenya Kwanza government, hoping it will bring stability and progress while maintaining checks and balances in governance.
