In a shocking turn of events, Reverend Sister Kinse Shako Annastasia has been dismissed from her Catholic congregation after openly exposing cases of abuse and exploitation faced by religious sisters at the hands of priests.
Her ordeal began in August 2025, when she posted a bold and emotional statement on Facebook, criticizing how some priests treat sisters in the Church.
She accused certain priests of using sisters for sexual pleasure, manipulating them under the guise of spiritual direction, and treating them as if they were “wives” or “commodities.”
“Religious Sisters are not ornaments in habits, nor are we mistresses in veils. We are women called by God, consecrated to service and prayer,” she wrote.
“Yet too often, we are reduced to temptation instead of respected as collaborators in Christ’s mission. The scandal is not just in the sin, but in the silence that protects it.”
Sister Annastasia also condemned abuse of authority within congregations, where some superiors allegedly silence and mistreat sisters instead of protecting them.
She further called out fellow sisters who abandon their vows for material gain, saying such actions weaken the dignity of religious life.
Despite emphasizing that her words came from a place of love for the Church, her post drew strong reactions. Many praised her courage, while others accused her of tarnishing the Church’s image.
On September 24, 2025, Sister Annastasia was officially dismissed from the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters (MOPHAS) in Auchi, Nigeria.
The dismissal letter, dated July 21, 2025, was handed to her upon her return to the convent.
To her shock, she found her personal belongings packed outside and her religious habit taken away. She was also handed a token sum of ₦100,000, which she publicly acknowledged with gratitude, even as she mourned the loss of her religious home.
“I did not speak out of hatred for the Church. I love my Church too much to stay silent. Silence has never protected the innocent—it only feeds the wolves,” she wrote in her final statement before leaving the convent.
Her dismissal has sparked heated debate within the Catholic community and beyond. Supporters argue she exposed a truth many have long whispered about, while critics say her approach brought “unnecessary scandal” to the Church.
For now, Sister Annastasia remains firm in her pledge to continue fighting for dignity and justice for consecrated women, calling for safer platforms where sisters can report abuse without fear of intimidation.
Her story highlights the tension between loyalty to tradition and the urgent need for reform within religious institutions.
