Nigeria Aims to Win CHAN 2025 in East Africa, Says Midfielder Harrison Austin

Nigeria’s national football team is ready and focused on winning the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be held in East Africa. Harrison Austin, a midfielder who plays for Nigeria’s Ikorodu City in the Nigeria Professional Football League, spoke about the team’s strong desire to win the tournament.

Nigeria is placed in Group D, where they will face tough opponents including the defending champions Senegal, Congo, and Sudan. Despite this challenge, Austin says the team is confident and determined.

“As a team, we always talk about the competition and how to improve,” Austin said. “Our coach points out our mistakes, and we work hard to fix them. Even among ourselves, we have short meetings to see how we can play better. This shows in our game.”

Austin also praised their coach, Eric Chelle, for his patience and clear instructions. “He allows us to ask questions. If I don’t understand something right away, he explains patiently. This helps me learn and improve. It’s easier to know what he wants.”

Nigeria’s journey in CHAN will be difficult because their group includes strong teams like Senegal, who won the last tournament, Congo, who have played in CHAN three times before, and Sudan, which is making a strong comeback.
Still, the Nigerian players have promised to give their best and fight hard to bring the trophy home.
